About Calém Port Wine Cellar:
Located by the riverfront on Avenue de Diogo Leite in the district of Vila Nova de Gaia, Cálem is one of the best known publicly accessible Port wine cellars in Porto. Learn everything there is to know about Port wine from vineyard to glass in a state-of-the-art format that includes: an interactive museum exhibition, guided tour and tasting.
The exhibition introduces the Cálem brand and provides a general overview of Port wine. You'll learn exactly what it is by examining the qualities that distinguish it from its non-fortified cousins. Equally important is the history and geography of the Douro region, both of which have defined the character and taste of Portugal's iconic export. Port may be sweet after all, but it wouldn't be unique without the terraced hills of the Douro Valley or the beautiful rabelo boats that transport its casks.
Although not included in your entry ticket, you'll soon be able to enjoy a 5D film experience as part of the exhibition.
After spending about 15 minutes in the museum you and your fellow guests will be assembled for a guided tour of the cellars. This part lasts about half an hour, and is led by an experienced host who will show you around the oak casks while explaining the maturation process.
At the end of the tour you'll be ushered into the tasting room and served up two wonderful Port wines: a Cálem Fine White and a Special Reserve Tawny.
