Efteling Theme Park | What To Expect:
As the largest amusement park in the Netherlands and one of the oldest in the world there's no shortage of magical experiences at Efteling. The grounds are packed with beautiful fantasy-themed attractions based on folkloric legends, mythology and fairy tales. Steel yourself and brave the brand new 'Baron 1898' roller coaster, a breathtaking white-knuckle experience during which you'll loop, roll and spin around in a minecart at speeds of up to 90 km/h. Be sure to brace yourself for the 37.5-metre free fall!
Why not climb aboard the accursed Flying Dutchman, whose captain, Willem van der Decken, lead his ship and crew to their doom on the high seas. Cast off from a fairytale castle and hold onto your hat as the ride gets faster and faster. Soon you'll be racing up and down the stormy waves before being cast down a final monstrous swell. Don't expect to stay dry sailor.
Need some time to regain your composure? Why not kick-back enjoy one of Efteling's fantastic open-air shows. The Aquanura is Europe’s biggest water show, a 12-minute spectacle utilising hundreds of powerful fountains, music, lighting and even some pyrotechnics to depict famous stories such as the 1001 Arabian Nights and George and the Dragon. There's also the Raveleijn show, where a team of 15 actors and stunt riders recount an epic tale of conflict between 10 siblings and an evil ruler called Count Olaf Grafhart and his five-headed monster.
There's plenty for younger kids to enjoy at Efteling as well. Take them on a journey around the world by climbing aboard the cheerful Carnaval Festival ride, featuring 270 animated figures, a melodic musical score and colourful themes from 15 different countries. The 'D´Oude Tuffer' old-timer track is one for the whole family. Its 600-meter track complete with miniature hills and bridges lets you roll along in a charming Model-T Ford replica.
There's so much more for the young family to get stuck into at Efteling, but we'll leave you with one final suggestion. Enter the Avonturen Doolhof, a big maze where mysterious statues talk to lost passers-by and watery traps wait just around the corner. See if you can find your way out!
