About The Loch Lomond, Trossachs & Doune Castle Tour:
Admire the breathtaking scenery of Scotland's first officially designated national park on this full day tour from Edinburgh. Meet your professional Lothian Motor Coaches guide at Charlotte Square. As well as insightful English-language commentary you can expect quality on board amenities including: air conditioning, reclining seats, footrests, Wi-Fi, USB charging and even a washroom.
The first leg takes you to Helix Park on the edge of Falkirk, where two monumental equine figures loom large against the rolling backdrop of nearby Fife. Since their unveiling in late 2013, The Kelpies have stood majestically over the newest section of the Forth and Clyde Canal.
Their design incorporates both Celtic mythology and local industrial heritage - a 'Kelpie' being a type of water spirit, and the actual form of the statues being based on the Clydesdale. Sculptor Andy Scott choose this breed as they were typical of the type of working horse that powered the early industrial revolution.
On departing the Kelpies you'll continue north-west onto Deanston Distillery, where there will be a chance to enjoy a tour of the facilities and treat yourself to a wee dram.
If whisky isn't your thing you can choose instead to visit Doune Castle, a wonderfully preserved medieval fortress which in recent decades has served as a film set for the likes of Game of Thrones, Outlander and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Uber fans will want to pack their coconut halves!
Afterwards the coach will pass into The Trossachs National Park. Derived from the Gaelic 'Na Tròiseachan', meaning 'bristly', its name offers a subtle hint as to what you can expect upon arrival - steep, rugged mountains; vast wooded glens and shimmering freshwater lochs.
Eventually you'll arrive on the bonnie, bonnie banks themselves, where an optional 1-hour sightseeing cruise awaits. The Loch Lomond cruise fee is not included in this tour, but it is the best way to appreciate the waters and surrounding mountains, including, most notably, Ben Lomond. If boats aren't your thing feel free to have a stroll along one of the loch's shoreline footpaths.
At the end of the tour you'll return to Edinburgh via Glasgow, where your guide will point out key landmarks such as the SSE Hydro, Glasgow Science Centre and Kelvingrove Park.
