About The Loch Lomond, Trossachs & Doune Castle Tour:

Admire the breathtaking scenery of Scotland's first officially designated national park on this full day tour from Edinburgh. Meet your professional Lothian Motor Coaches guide at Charlotte Square. As well as insightful English-language commentary you can expect quality on board amenities including: air conditioning, reclining seats, footrests, Wi-Fi, USB charging and even a washroom.

The first leg takes you westward towards Glasgow, where your guide will point out key landmarks such as the SSE Hydro, Glasgow Science Centre and Kelvingrove Park. After passing through Scotland's largest city you'll turn north towards The Trossachs National Park. Derived from the Gaelic 'Na Tròiseachan', meaning 'bristly', its name offers a subtle hint as to what you can expect upon arrival - steep, rugged mountains; vast wooded glens and shimmering freshwater lochs.

Your first stop will of course be the famous bonnie, bonnie banks, for an optional 1-hour sightseeing cruise with Sweeney’s Cruise Co. The cruise fee is not included in this tour, but it is the best way to appreciate the waters and surrounding mountains, including, most notably, Ben Lomond. If boats aren't your thing feel free to have a stroll along one of the loch's shoreline footpaths, or explore the nearby village of Balloch.

After spending time at Loch Lomond the tour moves on to Aberfoyle. This postcard village at the foothills of the West Highlands has intimate connections to historical figures such as: Rob Roy MacGregor, Mary, Queen of Scots and the Reverend Robert Kirk. The latter is best known for having creating the first Gàidhlig translation of the Book of Psalms, and as a prominent scholar of Scottish folklore. In addition to hearing village's many stories you'll have plenty of time to grab a snack or browse the local shops.

Food options include one the many quaint cafés, or the local co-operative general store. You may also want to check out The Scottish Wool Centre, a visitor attraction featuring falconry displays and work demonstrations by agricultural animals. The centre has its own eatery, the 150-seat Ben Lomond Restaurant & Coffee Shop.

At around 13:30 your coach will embark on the final leg of the tour. Here you'll be taken to Doune Castle, a wonderfully well-preserved medieval fortress which in recent decades has served as a film set for the likes of Game of Thrones, Outlander and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Uber fans will want to remember to pack their coconut halves!

After leaving Doune Castle you'll return to Edinburgh via Stirling, Falkirk and Linlithgow.
