This full day 4x4 tour starts in Funchal, before heading through the southern parish of Campanário and Ribeira Brava towards the pristine seafront of Ponta do Sol.
Continuing along the coast the Jeep will then reach the Arco da Calheta, a historic parish wedged between crystal clear Atlantic waters and steep green hills.
From here the tour makes a shallow north-westerly ascent up Paul da Serra, which at an altitude of roughly 1,500 metres is very popular with sightseers for its panoramic vantage points and relativity flat vistas.
On its way towards the urban municipality of Calheta the tour takes a sweeping, curved route through the mountains and valleys of western Madeira. When your Jeep reconnects with the coast via the lush terraces of Estreito da Calheta it will stop for lunch in the parish of Prazeres.
The name of this place derives from an eponymous chapel dedicated to 'Our Lady of Prazeres', a venerated Mother Nature figure and a fitting patron for what is often regarded as one of the most beautiful villages on the island. Local highlights include a zoo filled with native fauna, a tea house and herb garden.
After lunch the tour will travel through the Jardim do Mar, eventually reaching its pinnacle stop, the Calheta Rum Factory. Enjoy a taste of Madeira's delectably sweet local tipple, savour the smells from the sugar cane mill, and observe the fascinating production process.
