According to legend they were created over 1000 years ago when Yusuf ibn Tashfin and his army rested on the plains outside the present day city. The seeds of the dates they ate were dropped into holes borrowed by their pitched spears, and these later grew into the grove we see today.

Today the garden along the Tensift River hosts a 5 star resort with golf course, which you can visit by hopping off at stop 7. On the return leg to Marrakech you'll have have the opportunity to stop for a camel ride, and visit the famous Jardin Majorelle.
