About The Miraflores Visitor Centre:
The Miraflores Visitor Centre is an attraction dedicated to the history and workings of the Panama Canal. Four exhibition halls detail the canal's construction, its role in Panama's economy and culture, and the ecology of the surrounding region. Going beyond the traditional museum experience, Miraflores Visitor Centre is also a place where you can observe the day-to-day workings of one of world's greatest engineering feats.
Stand on one of the three panoramic observation decks and view cargo ships as they negotiate the hulking Miraflores Locks. While the terraces give an unrestricted view of operations binoculars are recommended for optimal sightseeing. One full transit of a ship through the locks typically takes 30 minutes.
While visiting be sure to check out the 3D cinema, where the character Mr Canales will summarise the history of the Panama Canal. Several shows run throughout the day and alternate between English and Spanish. Check the schedule when you arrive at the visitor centre to catch the nearest available screening in your language.
Lastly, Miraflores is home to the on-site Atlantic & Pacific Co. Restaurant - a great place to relax after you've explored the exhibitions and viewed the locks.
