About The Scottish Monuments And Castles Tour:
Departing at 10:00, the first leg of the tour will take you to Linlithgow Palace, historic seat of Scotland's Stewart monarchs until the Union of the Crowns in 1603. Although largely ruinous, much of the building's masonry survives to the present day, allowing visitors to access and admire the building's remarkable medieval architecture. Please note that the palace entry fee is not included in the cost of the tour.
Next you'll travel to Helix Park on the edge of Falkirk, where two monumental equine figures loom large against the rolling backdrop of nearby Fife. Since their unveiling in late 2013, The Kelpies have stood majestically over the newest section of the Forth and Clyde Canal. Their design incorporates both Celtic mythology and local industrial heritage - the Kelpies themselves being a type of water spirit, and the actual form of the statues being based on the Clydesdale. Sculptor Andy Scott choose this breed as they were typical of the type of working horse that powered the early industrial revolution.
After spending time at The Kelpies the tour will continue north to Stirling Castle, a grand fortress preached atop a steep rocky hill. Like Linlithgow Palace, Stirling Castle was one of Scotland's principle pre-union royal residences. It's were Mary, Queen of Scots was crowned in September 1543, and where in 1746 Charles Edward Stuart attempted an unsuccessful siege with his highland army.
From the ramparts of Stirling Castle you can view a testament to the legendary Braveheart himself, Sir William Wallace. His namesake monument was completed in 1869 as per the design of Scottish architect John Thomas Rochead. It sits atop Abbey Craig, a scenic hill not unlike the one elevating Stirling Castle.
